glatec-based Chiral Nano AG announces the completion of a $3.8 million fundraising

The Zurich-based company, which is today announcing the completion of a $3.8 million fundraising, has developed innovation it hopes will power a new generation of microchips – and therefore a new generation of even more powerful computing and technology. The pre-seed round is co-led by Founderful and HCVC.

Nanomaterials like carbon nanotube and graphene were supposed to be the next big thing already 20 years ago. Today, they are still considered the ‘next’ big thing. Everyone says nanomaterials will revolutionize electronics/chips, but how to integrate these materials into chips remains a challenge.

Chiral’s answer to this challenge is to use fully automated, high-precision robotic machines. Seoho Jung had worked with nanomaterials for years, but he did not think it would be possible for a robotic machine to handle carbon nanotubes (they are 100000x thinner than our hair) and place them on electronics - until he met his co-founders Natanael Lanz and Andre Butzerin. They are the main architects and builders of what made Chiral possible.

glatec – Offering Support for New Companies and Collaborative Research at Empa and Eawag in Zurich-Dubendorf

The difficulties which a new company experiences in the first stages of its existence can have a massive influence on its future chances of success. At this early stage in development, professional help and support are of special importance since many new entrepreneurs have neither management experience nor access to infrastructure.

glatec, a non-profit organisation located in Zurich-Dubendorf, runs a business incubator to support and to facilitate company start-ups and innovation in the fields of materials science, environmental science and technology.

At the Empa site in St. Gallen STARTFELD facilitates innovation and entrepreneurship.

Overview

Bridging the gap between science and industry and offering support to new companies are two of the main areas of interest of the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa) in cooperation with the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag), and the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL).

Our vision is to use the business incubator to spark innovation in the forward-looking areas of science of international interest, thereby ensuring the on-going creation of jobs and supporting the recruitment of international firms in the interests of the economy of the Zurich area.
